If you attended our December Show and Tell, you will remember Bob Eckert’s wavy cutting board. Despite Bob’s description of the process, I still couldn’t wrap my head around all of the various steps necessary to achieve the final result that he was showing us. I looked over at Bill and Ken and could almost hear the thoughts running through their minds, “This would make a great meeting program demonstration!”
Bob’s cutting board features thin strips of wood that run through the entire thickness of the board. So, rather than just seeing an inlay on one face of the board, the pattern shows on both faces and the ends. The technique can be applied to more than just cutting boards. It might work as a decorative element for tabletops, casework, or boxes. In order to help us better grasp his process, Bob will use the bandsaw and table saw to demonstrate the cutting techniques he uses to achieve the “look.” He will also show the other steps necessary to get the pieces to all fit together so beautifully.
